• Myringotomy: Myringotomy tubes are surgically placed into the child’s eardrum by an ENT doctor. The tubes can be made up of plastic or metal. The tubes help in the draining of the fluid from the middle ear in order to reduce the risk of ear infections. During the ear infection, the fluid gathers in the middle ear, which will affect the child’s hearing. Sometimes, when the infection is gone, some of the fluid may remain in the ear. These tubes can help drain out this fluid and also prevent it from building up. The most common ages are from 1 to 3 years old. By the age of 5 years, most children have wider and longer tubes, thus it allows the better drainage.
