What are the Common Signs of Miscarriage?

Answer

  1. A miscarriage, in the simplest terms, is when a pregnant woman undergoes a sudden loss of the fetus. It’s quite common in early pregnancy and its four most common symptoms include:

    1. Cramping and contracting
    2. Fluid/ tissue discharge from the vagina
    3. Pain in the lower abdomen
    4. Dizziness and slight nausea

While blood loss after miscarriage is common in most women, it is not necessary. Sometimes the embryo has died already but shows no signs or symptoms such as bleeding/ pain. This is medically known as ‘missed pregnancy’.

While miscarriage itself means the failure of pregnancy, many a time it requires surgical cleaning. This method is called ‘dilation and curettage ’ (D&C). It is a surgical method where your OB-GYN cleans the inside of your uterus and gently scrapes off the remnants of the dead fetus. This is a necessary medical procedure recommended after most miscarriages to ensure complete abortion and nullify the chances of infection and sepsis.

If you are pregnant and find yourself going through any of the above symptoms, we suggest you consult your OB-Gynecologist/ nearest doctor immediately. You can find the list of some of the best female OB-GYN for surgical abortion/ miscarriage cleaning /here.
