PCOS and Acne : How to Manage Breakouts Safely

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17 years old. After two years, my acne started appearing, and every year it keeps getting worse. Now it is affecting my confidence. My graduation is coming up, and I want my acne to settle by my farewell. What can I do to reduce acne without making it worse?

When you are diagnosed with PCOS, you usually undergo a small ultrasound scan, which helps determine whether your PCOS is mild or severe. Depending on the severity, your treatment plan is decided.

If you have severe PCOS, which is causing acne as well as facial hair growth (known medically as hirsutism), medications may be required to manage these symptoms. Additionally, facial hair can be reduced with laser treatment, and acne can be managed with procedures like carbon laser treatments.

If your PCOS is mild, then simple lifestyle modifications can be very effective. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and overall healthy habits can help reduce PCOS symptoms and improve your skin condition.

Combining lifestyle changes with the appropriate medical or cosmetic treatments can help you achieve better results and reduce acne without worsening it.
