Bulging Leg Veins with Pain and Swelling : Varicose Veins
2 weeks ago
The veins on both my legs are clearly visible and bulging. My legs feel heavy and painful by the end of the day, and there is swelling around the ankles. Sometimes I also get cramps at night. What is causing this problem, and do I need treatment?

The prominent, bulging veins seen on both legs are due to varicose veins, a condition in which the valves inside the leg veins become weak and allow blood to flow backward and collect in the veins.
This leads to symptoms such as leg heaviness, pain, swelling, night cramps, and fatigue, especially after prolonged standing or sitting. Over time, varicose veins can worsen and cause skin changes, itching, pigmentation, hardening of the skin, and even non-healing leg ulcers if not treated.
Management includes lifestyle changes like leg elevation, regular walking, weight control, and wearing compression stockings, along with medications for symptom relief. In moderate to severe cases, minimally invasive treatments such as laser or radiofrequency vein ablation can safely close the faulty veins and provide long term relief. Early treatment helps prevent complications and improves daily comfort.
