Bleeding after taking abortion pills can sometimes last longer than expected, and light to moderate bleeding or spotting for up to 4–6 weeks may be normal as the uterus clears remaining tissue.

However, if bleeding is continuing at 4 weeks, it is important to get evaluated by a doctor. Ongoing bleeding can be due to retained tissue in the uterus, hormonal imbalance, or infection.

If the bleeding is heavy (soaking two or more pads per hour), not reducing at all, or associated with severe abdominal pain, fever, foul-smelling discharge, dizziness, or extreme weakness, medical attention is needed urgently.

A doctor may advise an ultrasound, examination, or blood tests to confirm that the abortion is complete and to rule out complications, and treatment may include medicines, antibiotics, or a minor procedure if required.

It is best not to ignore prolonged bleeding and to consult a gynecologist for safe and proper care.
