What Do Mifepristone and Misoprostol Actually Do?
My doctor prescribed mifepristone and misoprostol but didn't explain much. I want to understand how these tablets work, when they're used, and whether they're safe. Can someone explain this in plain terms?

These two medicines are used together for medical abortion up to 9–10 weeks. Each does a different job.
Mifepristone blocks progesterone, the hormone that sustains the pregnancy. Without it, the pregnancy cannot continue. You take this first.
Misoprostol is taken 24–48 hours later. It causes the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy, similar to a natural miscarriage. Cramping and bleeding usually begin within 1–4 hours. Expect heavier bleeding than a normal period, possibly with clots.
Side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, and fever; most pass within a few hours. The combination is around 95–98% effective when used correctly within the approved window. Follow-up with a doctor afterward is important to confirm the abortion is complete.
