My period is 10 days late, and the pregnancy test is negative. Is there any medicine to trigger a period? I've heard of tablets for this but don't know if they're safe to take without a prescription.

Yes, there are medicines that can induce a period, but taking them without a proper diagnosis isn’t ideal.

The medicines used for this are progestin hormones (like norethisterone or medroxyprogesterone acetate). A doctor prescribes them for hormonal delay you take them for 5-10 days, and the period typically starts within 2-3 days of stopping.

The problem with self-medicating: if the cause is PCOS, thyroid disorder, or something else, hormones might bring one period on but won’t fix the underlying issue. The delay will happen again. And if there’s a small chance of a false negative pregnancy test, hormonal tablets taken at the wrong time can be harmful.

With a 10-day late period and negative test, visit a gynecologist.
