Irregular Periods for Months with PCOS : Do I Need Long-Term Treatment?
I am 25 years old and have been diagnosed with PCOS after blood tests and sonography. I have been facing irregular periods for a long time sometimes I don’t get periods for 6–8 months, and then they come after taking medicines. I also have symptoms like weight gain, acne, and unwanted hair growth. I was given a short course of tablets earlier, but I did not continue follow-up treatment. I am confused about whether I need long-term medication or if diet and lifestyle changes alone are enough to manage my condition.

PCOS is a hormonal condition that often requires a combination of lifestyle changes and medical management, especially when symptoms like long gaps in periods, weight gain, acne, and excess hair growth are present.
While short-term medication can help induce periods, long-term regulation usually needs a structured plan based on your hormone levels, including tests like serum insulin and testosterone. Diet and weight management are essential, but in many cases, medications are also required to regulate cycles and control symptoms effectively.
Regular follow-up with a doctor is important to monitor progress and adjust treatment accordingly.
