Are multifocal lenses effective for complete vision correction after cataract surgery?

I am 63 and planning cataract surgery. My doctor recommended a multifocal lens to reduce my dependence on glasses for both distance and reading. I’m anxious — will the lens really allow me to see clearly at all distances, or are there compromises like glare or halos?

Multifocal lenses are designed to provide clear vision at multiple distances, significantly reducing dependence on glasses. Many patients achieve excellent distance and near vision, but mild glare or halos can occur initially, especially at night. Most people adapt to these visual effects within a few weeks, and they rarely persist long-term. Choosing the right lens type and proper pre-surgical evaluation can maximize benefits and minimize compromises, helping patients regain confidence in daily activities.
