Are Sebaceous Cysts Genetic? Can You Prevent Them?

I have a family history of sebaceous cysts. Does this make me more likely to develop them too? Are there preventive measures or lifestyle habits that can reduce the chances of developing sebaceous cysts?

Having a family history of sebaceous cysts can slightly increase your likelihood of developing them, as some people have a genetic predisposition. However, sebaceous cysts are generally benign and not dangerous.

There are no guaranteed preventive measures to completely avoid them. Maintaining good skin hygiene and avoiding trauma to the skin may help reduce the risk of cyst formation, but they do not guarantee prevention.

Regular self-examination and consulting a doctor if you notice new lumps or changes are the best ways to manage a family tendency toward sebaceous cysts.
