Breathing Problem After Nose Surgery : Causes, DNS Doubts & Treatment Options

I have been facing breathing issues from my right nostril since my school days. I had a nose surgery around 2 years ago, after which I felt better temporarily, but the problem returned. I now experience difficulty breathing, frequent headaches by evening, and worsening symptoms during winter. A general physician recently told me that I might still have a deviated nasal septum (DNS). I am unsure why the problem has come back even after surgery and what exactly is causing my symptoms now. Could you guide me on the possible reasons and what should be the next step for proper diagnosis and treatment?

From your history, it is important to understand that once a deviated nasal septum (DNS) is surgically corrected, it typically does not recur, as the bone does not grow back again. However, symptoms similar to DNS can reappear due to other conditions such as sinus infections, nasal polyps, allergies, or turbinate hypertrophy, which are quite common and can worsen over time, especially in colder weather.

Since you have already undergone surgery, the exact cause of your current symptoms cannot be determined without proper evaluation. The most appropriate next step would be to get a fresh CT scan of the nose and paranasal sinuses. This will help assess what was done in the previous surgery and identify any new or persistent issues.

Based on the scan findings, a targeted treatment plan can be made, which may include medications like nasal sprays, anti-allergic treatment, or, if required, a corrective procedure for long-term relief.
