Cataract Surgery in Bangalore : Procedure, Recovery & Insurance Guide
2 months ago
My mother, Meena Devi, is around 58–59 years old and has a history of high blood pressure. She has already consulted doctors earlier, and one of them recommended cataract surgery. We would like to understand the different surgery methods available, hospital locations in Bangalore (preferably North Bangalore), and whether both eyes can be operated on at the same time. We also want to know the hospital stay duration, precautions after surgery, whether it is safe for her to travel after the procedure, if protective spectacles are required, how many follow-up visits are needed, and whether insurance will cover the treatment.

Your mother’s eye surgery can be planned smoothly, as we have tie-ups with multiple hospitals across Bangalore, including Vasan Eye Care, which operates under Pristyn Care, along with other associated hospitals such as Sekistan Etralia, Divya Drishti, Dilvigi, and Suguna Hospital.
The surgery is usually done on one eye at a time, meaning one eye will be operated on first and the second eye will be scheduled the next day or shortly after, depending on recovery from the first procedure.
The surgery can be performed using different techniques such as open surgery, MICS (Micro Incision Cataract Surgery), or laser treatment; in laser surgery, the incision is made using a laser, whereas in MICS a very small incision is used, which is not visible, and a POCO machine is commonly used for this method.
The procedure is a day-care process and typically takes about four hours in total, so if you arrive at the hospital around 9 AM, discharge usually happens by 12 or 1 PM. After surgery, precautions need to be followed for about four to five days, and vision may remain slightly blurry for up to a week due to eye drops.
The eye will be protected with a black-colored spectacle that fully covers it, which should be worn for around 15 days while going outside, though it may not be necessary indoors if there is no dust exposure. Traveling by car is allowed even after two days, as long as windows are closed and protective glasses are worn.
Follow-up consultations are required on the second day after surgery and again after one week. Since your mother has insurance, coverage can be checked and used based on policy terms, which will help manage the overall cost of the treatment.
