Cataract Surgery with Diabetes & BP: Procedure & Cost
2 months ago
I have already completed my eye check-up and was diagnosed with cataract in my left eye only; the right eye does not currently require surgery. I also have diabetes and hypertension, but both are under control. I would like complete details about the cataract surgery procedure, the types of artificial lenses available, and the total cost. I also want to understand the post-surgery care and maintenance, the nearest hospital location (I live near Peenya), and the available payment options including insurance or cash. Additionally, I was informed about different hospital categories like S1 and S2, and I would like to know the difference between them.”

Since you have a cataract in the left eye and your diabetes and hypertension are under control, cataract surgery can usually be planned after a routine preoperative check-up. The procedure is generally a daycare surgery, meaning you can go home the same day, and it usually takes about 15–20 minutes under topical anesthesia (eye drops).
Hospitals are available across Bengaluru, including Rajajinagar, Vijayanagar, Jayanagar, Bommanahalli, HSR Layout, Marathahalli, and Peenya, and Rajajinagar may be convenient if you are near Peenya.
There are four main types of intraocular lenses (IOLs): Monofocal (clear distance vision, reading glasses needed), EDOF (extended range with less dependence on glasses), Multifocal (near and distance vision), and Trifocal (near, intermediate, and distance vision).
The cost depends on the lens chosen, and the hospital categories S1 and S2 mainly differ in infrastructure, included services, and package pricing. Both insurance (cashless) and self-pay options are available, and insurance requires pre-authorization.
After surgery, you will need eye drops for a few weeks and follow-up visits as advised by the ophthalmologist.
