Cervical weakness after miscarriage how it’s diagnosed and prevented?

My cousin had a miscarriage in her second trimester, and the doctors mentioned something about cervical weakness. Is this true? How do doctors diagnose such conditions, and can it be prevented in future pregnancies?

Yes, some miscarriages in the second trimester can be linked to a weak cervix, also called cervical insufficiency. This means the cervix starts opening too early before the baby is ready to be born. Doctors can diagnose this with ultrasound scans that measure cervical length or by reviewing the pregnancy history. If it is suspected, there are ways to prevent it in future pregnancies. One option is a stitch called cervical cerclage that helps keep the cervix closed until it is safe for delivery. Sometimes vaginal progesterone is also prescribed. With the right care, many women with this condition go on to have healthy pregnancies.
