Chest Lump : Causes, Diagnosis & Treatment

I have noticed a painless, round lump on the front of my chest near my nipple for the past few weeks. It seems firm and slightly raised compared to the surrounding chest area. What could this be, and do I need any tests or treatment for it?

A painless, round, firm lump near the nipple for a few weeks is often due to a benign cause such as a fatty lump (lipoma), cyst, gynecomastia‑related tissue, or other non‑cancerous chest‑wall swelling, but a breast or chest‑wall tumor cannot be ruled out without examination.

A doctor would take a detailed history and examine the lump’s size, shape, mobility, and the overlying skin, and may advise an ultrasound of the chest/breast area and, if needed, a needle test like FNAC or core biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.

It is especially important to be seen promptly if the lump is enlarging quickly, becomes painful, red, or warm, if the nipple changes shape or has discharge, or if you feel additional lumps in the armpit. Until you are evaluated, avoid pressing or manipulating the lump and schedule an appointment with a general surgeon or breast/chest specialist in the next few days so that you can get a clear diagnosis and start any required treatment early.
