Does liposuction actually reduce weight or only shape targeted body areas?

I’ve heard conflicting information online. Can liposuction help with overall weight loss, or is it mainly for contouring specific areas? If I have generalized obesity, would this be effective, or should it only be considered for localized fat pockets?

Liposuction is primarily a body contouring procedure and is not a weight-loss solution. It effectively removes localized fat pockets that are resistant to diet and exercise, such as the abdomen, thighs, arms, or chin. For people with generalized obesity, liposuction is not recommended as a method for overall weight loss, as it removes only limited amounts of fat and does not address lifestyle factors.

Maintaining a healthy diet and regular exercise is essential to achieve long-term weight management. Liposuction works best for individuals who are close to their ideal weight but have stubborn areas of fat.
