I am a third-year student and I have noticeable hair growth on my cheeks and under my chin. Should I opt for hair reduction or laser hair removal? Are there any long-term side effects?

If you develops facial hair on the cheeks or under the chin, the first and most important step is to identify the underlying cause through proper consultation. In most cases, facial hair growth in women is related to increased androgen levels. Androgens are male hormones, mainly testosterone, and when their level or ratio increases in the blood, their effect starts becoming visible on the female body, especially on the face.
This leads to thick, terminal hair growth on areas like the chin and cheeks. During consultation, the doctor evaluates whether this is due to conditions like PCOD or PCOS, or because of hyperandrogenism caused by ovarian or adrenal tumors, as these conditions can cause a sudden rise in androgen levels.
Once the cause is identified and managed, laser hair reduction is considered the most effective solution. When performed with the right energy settings and by a trained professional, laser hair reduction does not have any long-term side effects.
