I was told glaucoma surgery is needed to preserve my vision permanently. How effective is trabeculectomy or tube-shunt surgery, and will I still need eye drops afterward?

Trabeculectomy and tube-shunt surgery are very effective in lowering intraocular pressure, often more than drops or laser treatments can achieve. However, some patients may still need drops after surgery if the pressure does not reach the target level on its own. The main advantage is that the number of drops usually reduces, and the disease progression slows down. Think of surgery as creating a new drainage system for the eye, but long-term care is still important to keep the results stable.
