Healing Emotionally After Abortion : Guidance, Support & Self-Care

I had an abortion recently and while my body is healing, emotionally I feel overwhelmed. Some days I’m okay, and other days I feel sad, guilty, or confused. Is this normal, and how can I take care of my mental health?

Yes, what you’re experiencing is completely normal. After an abortion, many women notice a mix of emotions relief, sadness, guilt, or even numbness and these feelings don’t mean anything is wrong; they’re simply part of processing a significant experience.

It can help to be gentle with yourself and remember there’s no  right  way to feel. Talking to someone you trust or a counselor may offer comfort and clarity. Small self-care practices like rest, journaling, walking, or relaxing activities can also support emotional healing.

Try not to judge your emotions they are temporary and will settle with time. If sadness, anxiety, or emotional distress becomes constant or overwhelming, reaching out for professional support is important.

Healing takes time both physically and emotionally and you deserve patience, compassion, and understanding as you go through it.
