How Keratoconus is Diagnosed : Consultation Process & Treatment Choices
1 week ago
I am 26 years old and from Thane. I was diagnosed with keratoconus in my right eye last year during an eye test. My current spectacle power is -4 in the right eye and -1.5 in the left eye, and my power has been stable for the last 2 years. I have not taken any prior treatment and do not use contact lenses. Could you please guide me on whether laser treatment or any other procedure is suitable for keratoconus in my case, and what my next steps should be?

Keratoconus is a condition in which the cornea becomes thin and bulges outward, leading to reduced vision quality. Since your spectacle power has been stable for a few years, the next step depends on the current severity and corneal condition. Laser vision correction is usually not recommended in keratoconus; instead, treatment may include specialized contact lenses, corneal strengthening procedures like collagen cross-linking (C3R), or other interventions in advanced cases.
A detailed eye examination with corneal scans is essential to assess stability and progression, after which the doctor can suggest the most suitable and personalized treatment plan.
