Is general anesthesia safe for pediatric squint surgery?

My 8-year-old has exotropia (outward squint). The surgeon said early intervention is better, but I’m nervous — is surgery painful for children, and will general anesthesia affect them in any way?

Children don’t feel pain during surgery because it’s done under general anesthesia. Afterward, they may have mild soreness or redness, but this usually settles within a few days. Modern anesthesia is very safe, and anesthesiologists are trained to work with children. Early surgery helps improve both vision and appearance, and most kids bounce back quickly, often returning to school and play in about a week.
