I’ve heard about laparoscopic myomectomy for fibroids. Is it safe and effective for large fibroids? How does it compare with open surgery in terms of recovery time, pain, and recurrence chances?

Laparoscopic myomectomy is a minimally invasive technique where fibroids are removed through small cuts instead of a large incision. For small to medium-sized fibroids, it is very effective, safe, and offers faster recovery, less pain, and smaller scars compared to open surgery.
For very large fibroids, however, laparoscopy may be technically more challenging. In such cases, open surgery (abdominal myomectomy) may still be recommended for safety and complete removal. Recovery from open surgery usually takes longer, with more pain and a bigger scar.
In terms of recurrence, both laparoscopic and open myomectomy carry similar chances, because recurrence depends more on your body’s tendency to form fibroids rather than the method of removal. A detailed ultrasound or MRI before surgery helps doctors decide which approach is safer for you.
