My hair has become very thin near the crown area, and it looks worse under bright lights. Is this early male/female pattern baldness? What’s the first step a dermatologist usually recommends before considering surgical options?

Crown thinning is often an early sign of pattern baldness because the hair strands shrink before they fall. It becomes more noticeable under strong lighting since the scalp starts showing through.
Most dermatologists start with stabilising treatments like medication and PRP. If these work well, surgery may not be needed for a long time. A transplant is only recommended when hair loss becomes permanent.
