If I have a lipoma on my hand, can it appear in other parts of my body as well? How can I make sure it doesn’t spread?

Yes, it’s possible to have lipomas in multiple areas, but it’s important to understand how they occur. Lipoma is a genetic condition, and fat cells are distributed throughout the body, though the type of fat cells differs by location for example, the fat cells in your hands are different from those in your thighs.
Crucially, one lipoma does not cause another to form. Having a lipoma on your hand does not mean it will spread from there. Multiple lipomas are usually independent of each other, and there is no connection between one lipoma and another.
A common myth is that lipomas increase after surgery, but that is not true. Surgery only removes the lipomas present at that time; it does not cause new lipomas to appear. New lipomas can develop in other areas over time, but this happens due to the genetic nature of the condition, not because of the existing lipoma or surgery.
