I have a lipoma on my back. Is it necessary to get it removed, or is it okay if I don’t?

Lipomas on the back are quite common, and the skin on the back is one of the thickest in the body. Because of this, many patients with back lipomas complain of pain or discomfort, especially while lying down, as the lipoma gets pressed. People who work out also experience pain during back exercises or stretching, which can irritate the lipoma.

If the lipoma is painful, interferes with your daily activities, causes discomfort while sleeping or exercising, or keeps drawing your attention repeatedly, then it is better to get it treated. However, if it is not causing pain, not increasing in size, and not affecting your routine, it can be left as it is and monitored.
