Lipomas Near the Chest : Are They Cancerous and Should You Be Worried?

I’ve heard that lipomas are usually non-cancerous. But if there’s one near the chest, can it be cancerous? My wife was told by doctor that she has lipomas near her breasts. Should we be worried? Could it become cancerous later?

Well, a lipoma, regardless of its location, usually has no direct link to cancer. However, any lump in the chest, especially in a female’s breast, should be properly evaluated. There are several ways to evaluate breast lumps. One of the most important and accessible methods is breast self-examination, which every woman should follow regularly for early detection of any lump.

If the lump persists, does not reduce on its own, shows changes, grows in size, or becomes painful, it definitely requires medical investigation. You should have a doctor examine it to rule out any serious issues.

To be clear, a lipoma itself does not turn into cancer, whether it’s on the chest or any other part of the body. Regular breast self-exams are a safe and effective way for women to monitor their breasts and detect any unusual lumps early.
