Period Hasn’t Come for 2 Months : What Should I Do?

I haven't had a period in 2 months. I'm not pregnant (tested twice, both negative). I don't have any pain. Should I be worried? What tests or steps should I take to find out what's going on?

Missing two consecutive periods with negative pregnancy tests is called secondary amenorrhea and does need investigation  but the cause is usually treatable.

Step 1: If you want to be thorough, a blood beta-hCG test at a lab is more sensitive than a urine test and gives a definitive answer.

Step 2 – See a gynecologist. Two missed periods warrants evaluation. The doctor will ask about stress, weight changes, exercise, and medications, then order blood tests.

Common tests: TSH (thyroid), prolactin, FSH, LH, and estrogen levels. A pelvic ultrasound is usually done as well.

Most likely causes: PCOS is the most common, followed by hypothyroidism and hyperprolactinemia (high prolactin from a small benign pituitary growth).
