Post-Throat Cancer Surgery: Eating and Speaking Recovery?Throat Infection

My uncle recently had throat cancer surgery, and now he is using a tube to eat. The family is very worried about how long such patients usually take to recover swallowing function. Is it possible to return to normal eating and speaking after major throat cancer surgery, or do some patients need permanent support?

Recovery after major throat cancer surgery depends on how much tissue was removed and whether additional treatments like radiotherapy are needed. Many patients gradually regain swallowing and speaking abilities with dedicated rehabilitation and speech therapy, though it may take weeks or months. Some severe cases may require long-term support, but feeding tubes are often temporary. Reconstructive techniques are used to preserve as much normal function as possible. Nutritional guidance and emotional support are also crucial during recovery. With consistent therapy, most patients eventually resume normal eating and speaking.
