Post Underarm Surgery Concerns : Scar, Loose Skin & Revision Options
1 month ago
I previously underwent underarm surgery but I’m not satisfied with the results. On one side the outcome seems better, but on the other side I still notice loose skin or fullness, along with a visible scar from the incision. I initially expected the issue to be completely resolved, but that didn’t happen. Could you please explain why this might have occurred and what options are available now to improve the appearance? Can this be corrected further, and what would the next steps be?

I understand your concern. After underarm surgery, the final outcome depends on the underlying cause of fullness-whether it is residual fat, glandular tissue, or mainly loose skin. In some cases, if the primary issue is not only fat, liposuction alone may not fully resolve the concern, and loose skin may remain, especially if the initial condition involved minimal fat and more tissue or skin laxity.
The next step is a proper clinical evaluation to determine what exactly is contributing to the current appearance. If there is some residual fat, targeted liposuction can help improve contour. However, if the concern is mainly excess loose skin, then surgical skin excision may be required, which does involve a scar-usually placed in a way to make it as less noticeable as possible.
It’s also important to understand that every patient heals differently, and factors like anatomy, skin elasticity, and healing response play a role in the final result. Since you have already waited for a few months, a physical examination will help in deciding whether revision procedures can improve the outcome or if observation is more appropriate. A consultation will allow us to assess your case in detail and suggest the most suitable next steps.
