Rhinoplasty Recovery: Timeline & Expectations

How long is the full recovery period after rhinoplasty? When can I realistically return to work, resume physical activities or exercise, and see the final shape of my nose without swelling or bruising?

The initial recovery after rhinoplasty usually takes about 1 to 2 weeks, during which swelling, bruising, and nasal congestion gradually improve. Most patients can return to work or light daily activities after about 7–10 days, while strenuous exercise or contact sports should be avoided for at least 4–6 weeks.

Although the nose looks better within a few weeks, minor swelling can persist for several months, and the final refined shape may take 6–12 months to fully settle.

Following your surgeon’s post-operative care instructions like avoiding pressure on the nose, wearing glasses carefully, and protecting it from injury helps ensure smooth healing and optimal results.
