Bariatric surgery is increasingly becoming common to treat severe cases of obesity. Several procedures under bariatric surgery works through modifying the digestive system by either restricting the food intake or reducing the nutrient consumption, or both.

While bariatric surgery is generally a safe and effective treatment option for weight loss, there are only a few short-term implications, such as, bleeding, infection, malnutrition, blood clots, leaks, etc. Additonally, the surgery’s success is also dependent on the surgeon’s skill and expertise, types of bariatric procedure performed, and the patient’s medical health.
