Stapedectomy Side Effects: Frequency and Recovery DurationStapedectomy

My 35-year-old brother has been advised stapedectomy for hearing loss in both ears. He is worried about surgical complications like dizziness, ringing, or even permanent hearing damage. How common are these side effects, and how long do they usually last after the surgery?

Temporary dizziness or imbalance is common in the first few days or weeks after stapedectomy as the inner ear adjusts. Ringing in the ear, called tinnitus, may also occur initially but often improves over time. Permanent hearing damage or severe complications are rare, occurring in a small percentage of cases. Surgeons take great care to minimize risk by using precise techniques and careful monitoring. Patients usually regain balance fully within a few weeks, and most report significant improvement in hearing without long-term side effects. Regular follow-ups ensure any issues are detected early.
