Throat Surgery Recovery: Persistent Pain or Complication?Throat Infection
2 months ago
I had throat surgery a few months ago to remove a benign lump, and although the healing seemed fine, I still feel irritation and occasional pain while swallowing. Is this a normal part of long-term recovery, or could it mean there are complications or regrowth of the lump?

Lingering irritation, mild discomfort, or tightness in the throat can be normal for a few months after surgery as tissues continue to heal. It becomes concerning if pain is worsening, swelling appears, or new lumps form, which could indicate a complication or scar tissue. Benign lumps rarely recur, but follow-up visits are important to confirm proper healing. Simple examinations or imaging can reassure you and ensure everything is progressing normally. Hydration, avoiding throat irritants, and gentle diet modifications often help with lingering discomfort. Most patients gradually notice that the sensation improves and swallowing returns to normal over time.
