Tight Foreskin in Adults : Causes, Symptoms and Best Treatment with Circumcision
2 months ago
I’m 45 years old and have been facing tight foreskin issues for quite a long time. Recently, it has become worse. I’m unable to pull the foreskin back properly, which is causing hygiene problems and discomfort during intercourse. I am not prediabetic, and my sugar levels are normal. I wanted to understand if this condition can be treated with medicines or if surgery is the only option. Also, how safe is the procedure, and what should I expect during recovery?

Your symptoms are suggestive of phimosis (tight foreskin), which tends to worsen with age if not treated. In many long-standing cases like yours, medicines usually don’t provide a permanent solution, especially when the foreskin has become significantly tight.
The most effective and long-term treatment is a circumcision procedure, where the tight portion of the foreskin is removed. Nowadays, advanced techniques like stapler circumcision are used, which are quick, safe, and minimally invasive. The surgery usually takes around 10–15 minutes, is done under local anesthesia (so you won’t feel pain during the procedure), and you can go home the same day.
After the procedure, you may experience mild discomfort for a few days, especially during erections, but this settles gradually. Proper hygiene becomes much easier afterward, and issues like irritation or urine retention under the foreskin are resolved.
Post-surgery care involves basic cleaning and ointment application for about 10–15 days, and it’s advised to avoid sexual activity for around 4 weeks for proper healing. Risks like infection or bleeding are minimal and can be managed easily if they occur. Overall, it’s a safe and effective solution for long-term relief.
