Tonsillectomy and Snoring: When Will My Child’s Breathing and Sleep Improve?Tonsillectomy

I want to know if tonsillectomy also helps with snoring and sleep problems caused by enlarged tonsils. Will my child’s breathing and sleep improve immediately after surgery, or does it take time for swelling and discomfort to subside?

Sleep and breathing often improve quickly after tonsillectomy, but mild swelling and discomfort may temporarily affect airflow. Full improvement is usually noticeable within a few days to a week, once pain and swelling decrease. Snoring caused by enlarged tonsils often reduces dramatically, and children typically breathe more easily during sleep. Supportive care, such as proper hydration and pain management, helps accelerate recovery. In most cases, the benefits to sleep and overall energy are substantial and long-lasting.
