Tonsillectomy Recovery in Children: Managing Pain and EatingTonsillectomy

My child had a tonsillectomy a few days ago, and I noticed he refuses to eat and cries often due to throat pain. Is this normal, and what foods or care routines help children recover faster after tonsil surgery?

Yes, it is normal for children to have pain, especially when swallowing, in the first few days after surgery. Soft foods such as yogurt, mashed potatoes, soups, and ice cream help reduce discomfort. Hydration is very important to prevent dehydration and promote healing. Pain medications prescribed by the doctor should be given on schedule. Avoiding hot, spicy, or crunchy foods prevents irritation. Encouragement, gentle care, and patience help children adjust, and most regain appetite and normal activity within a week.
