Varicocele can surgery improve fertility?
I have a varicocele and was told it could be causing infertility. Surgery was suggested, but I am worried about complications and whether it will really improve fertility. How successful is varicocele repair in improving sperm quality, and how long does it usually take to see results?

Varicocele repair, known as varicocelectomy, is generally safe and can improve sperm count, motility, and morphology in many men, particularly if semen abnormalities are directly linked to the varicocele. Complications are uncommon but can include minor scrotal swelling, infection, or hydrocele formation. Improvement in sperm parameters is usually seen within 3–6 months post-surgery. Success rates for natural conception after varicocele repair range from 30–50%, depending on age, baseline semen quality, and female partner fertility. Regular follow-up semen analysis is essential to track progress.
