Varicose Veins with Obesity : Symptoms, Risks & Laser Treatment with Weight Loss
1 month ago
I've been noticing visible veins and symptoms of varicose veins in my legs for the past 1–1.5 years. I don’t have much pain right now, but I’m concerned about the appearance and possible future complications. I also have a high body weight (around 130+ kg), which has increased over time. I don’t have diabetes or thyroid issues, but I understand that my weight and lifestyle might be contributing to the problem. I wanted to ask how serious this condition is if left untreated. Can it worsen quickly due to my weight? Also, should I first go for weight loss, or can I proceed with laser treatment first? What is the best approach to manage this condition long-term?

Varicose veins are quite common, especially in people with prolonged standing habits or higher body weight. Even if you are not experiencing much pain right now, the condition can gradually worsen over time, leading to symptoms like heaviness, swelling, skin changes, or discomfort.
Your body weight plays a significant role here. Excess weight puts additional pressure on the leg veins, which can cause the veins to enlarge faster and may lead to progression of the disease within a few months if not managed properly.
In terms of treatment, laser treatment is a safe and effective option to close the affected veins and improve symptoms. You can go ahead with laser treatment even before complete weight loss, especially if the veins are already prominent. However, weight management is equally important to prevent recurrence or worsening in the future.
The ideal approach is a combination of both get the required treatment to fix the current problem and simultaneously work on gradual weight reduction, a healthy diet, and regular activity. This will ensure better long-term results and reduce the chances of the condition coming back.
Overall, it’s not an emergency right now, but it’s definitely something you should address early to avoid complications later on.
