What Post-Surgery Care Should I Follow After Piles or Anal Surgery?

I recently underwent a piles or anal procedure and wanted to know the post-surgery care instructions. I am curious about cleaning after bowel movements, managing discharge, bleeding, diet, walking, and head positioning after anesthesia. I want to ensure a smooth and safe recovery without complications.

After a piles or anal procedure, following proper post-surgery care is very important for safe and quick recovery. Good hygiene should be maintained by washing the area properly after every bowel movement; if there is any discharge or pus, the prescribed discharge medicine should be applied as advised by the doctor.

Mild bleeding or a light reddish color during bowel movements can be normal in the initial days, but heavy or continuous bleeding should not occur and must be reported immediately. After the effect of anesthesia wears off, you can usually start walking and eating normally within 1.5 to 2 hours, although feeling weak for a short time is common.

A normal diet can be resumed, including foods like sambar and chutney, but it is important to follow the hospital staff’s instructions regarding timing and portion size. To reduce strain and support healing, avoid lifting your head for the first two hours after the procedure and do not use a pillow for the first two days.

Regular follow-up is also essential, and it is recommended to return after 1 to 2 weeks for a proper check-up. Following these instructions helps ensure smooth healing with minimal discomfort after surgery.
