Worried About Scars After Cyst Removal? Here’s What to Expect

I’m worried about the appearance and scarring after cyst removal. How large is the typical incision, and how well do scars heal on visible areas like the face, neck, or arms? Are there any ways to reduce scarring after surgery?

The incision for sebaceous cyst removal is usually small, just enough to remove the cyst completely. Most scars heal well, especially when closed carefully by a skilled surgeon.

For visible areas like the face, neck, or arms, surgeons often make incisions along natural skin lines to minimize visibility.

To further reduce scarring, follow your doctor’s post-operative care instructions, keep the wound clean, avoid sun exposure, and use recommended silicone gels or sheets once the wound has healed.

Scars typically fade over several months and can become barely noticeable.
