What will the ENT doctor do during the first appointment for deviated nasal septum?
The first appointment is usually reserved to assess the severity of the condition and draft a preliminary treatment plan. Your ENT surgeon will begin by collecting your medical history, including information about the severity of the symptoms.
Following this, the surgeon will use a nasal speculum or nasal endoscope to gain better visuals of the deviated septum and determine the degree of deviation. If you have any additional symptoms, such as sinus infections, throat infections, etc., then the surgeon will assess those as well and inlcude those in the treatment plan. You may also need an X-ray or CT scan to see the alignment of the septal bones and cartilages.
Finally, the doctor will draft your preliminary treatment plan and provide some medications that can help manage the symptoms before the surgery.
