During your first visit, the ENT will assess your condition to determine whether you need conservative management or surgery. They will begin by collecting your medical and family history, including information about allergies that you may have. Then they will perform a visual and physical examination using a speculum.
Finally, they will collect culture swabs from your throat for laboratory analysis. Generally, they will prescribe you a broad-spectrum antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medications to manage your symptoms till the exact cause for the infection is identified. The final course of treatment will be decided based on the severity of the symptoms and the results of the laboratory tests.
