5 Months Pregnant – Can Abortion Be Done and What Is the Procedure?
I recently found out that I am pregnant, and based on my last period date, it seems to be around 4–5 months (about 18 weeks). I am married, but due to personal and family issues, I am not ready to continue this pregnancy. I was told that abortion may not be possible at this stage. I want to understand if it can still be done, whether medicines (tablets) will work, and what the procedure involves. Also, how many days of hospital stay will be required?

At around 18 weeks (5 months) of pregnancy, abortion becomes more complex and cannot be done using tablets alone, as medical abortion is usually effective only in early pregnancy (up to 9–12 weeks).
At this stage, a hospital-based procedure is required under medical supervision, often involving induction methods to terminate the pregnancy safely. You may need to be admitted for about 1–2 days, during which medications or procedures are used to complete the process.
It is important to have proper evaluation with reports (like ultrasounds) and follow legal and medical guidelines. You should visit a gynecologist in person along with a trusted family member to discuss the safest and most appropriate option for you.
