Low ovarian reserve with irregular cycles should I try IUI first or go straight to IVF?

I’ve been trying to conceive for over 3 years, but my cycles are irregular, and fertility tests show low ovarian reserve. I am 34, and the fear of declining fertility is overwhelming. My doctor suggested starting with IUI, but I am unsure whether this is the right approach or if I should consider IVF directly. What are the best options for women in my situation, and how effective are they really?

For women with low ovarian reserve, time is a critical factor because egg quantity and quality decline with age. IUI may still be attempted, especially if other factors like sperm quality and uterine health are normal, but success rates can be lower compared to IVF.

IVF offers a higher chance because it allows direct fertilization, better egg selection, and the option to freeze embryos for future use. Doctors often consider a patient’s age, ovarian reserve tests, and previous treatment history when deciding whether to start with IUI or proceed directly to IVF.

Emotional readiness, financial considerations, and realistic expectations are important in making this choice.
