What are the differences between open gastric bypass surgery and lap-band surgery for weight loss? Which one is better in terms of results, recovery time, etc.?

This is a very interesting question. Open gastric bypass surgery is not performed now and even lap gastric band surgery is also not performed. Open surgery is not performed because we have very advanced laparoscopic skills, equipment, and surgeons who can offer laparoscopic gastric bypass.
Lap band was a silicone band placed around the stomach to prevent excess food going into the stomach, but it does not have any hormonal action. So lap band is totally replaced by newer procedures which work on metabolism.
They could be sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic mini gastric bypass, and many other advanced laparoscopic modifications of bariatric surgery.
I believe these two procedures are now not considered in the protocol of bariatric procedure and therefore one should follow advanced and newer approved bariatric procedures only.
