Persistent Low Sperm Count: When Is It Time to Consider ICSI?

What happens when repeated semen tests show low count or motility even after months of treatment? At what point do doctors suggest advanced methods like ICSI, and how do couples prepare for that emotional shift?

If repeated tests show little to no improvement despite treatment, it usually means the underlying issue is not easily reversible. In such cases, doctors start considering options like ICSI because it helps bypass low count or poor motility by directly injecting a single sperm into the egg.

Emotionally, shifting to ICSI can feel overwhelming, but once couples understand that it significantly increases their chances, the fear often reduces. Fertility counselors, support groups, and open communication with your doctor help couples adjust to the change.
