Apart from laser, people also use other hair-removal methods such as waxing and shaving. Do these methods have any side effects, or can they cause any negative effects?

Yes, these methods can have several side effects. With shaving, only the hair above the skin is removed while the hair remains inside the follicle. This can cause the hair to grow inward and curl inside the skin, leading to ingrown hairs. Over time, patients often complain of increased ingrown hair problems. In the case of waxing, the hair is forcefully pulled out from the follicle, which again increases the chances of inward curling and ingrown hairs.

Waxing also increases friction on the skin. If a patient already has conditions like acanthosis nigricans, repeated friction in areas such as the chin or cheeks can worsen pigmentation. When hormonal imbalance, continuous friction, and ingrown hairs occur together, the skin texture of that area deteriorates.

Patients then present not only with excessive hair but also with poor skin texture and increased pigmentation. Additionally, repeated waxing can accelerate the aging process in that area, leading to skin loosening and early signs of aging.
