The first step is to visit a nearby eye specialist or optometrist for a vision and eye check-up. One important indication of cataract is when vision does not improve properly even after changing glasses.
Sometimes, vision may improve slightly with glasses, but if the cataract density has increased, especially in conditions like diabetes, the quality of vision still remains poor. Cataract does not develop suddenly; it progresses slowly, and over time people unknowingly adapt to the reduced vision, thinking it is normal.
Some early signs of cataract include frequent changes in spectacle power, blurred or foggy vision, increased glare from lights, difficulty seeing at night, seeing halos or double images, especially while looking at lights or the moon.
If glasses are prescribed but vision still does not feel clear, it can also indicate cataract. However, a definite diagnosis can only be made by an eye doctor after a proper eye examination. Recognizing these early signs and getting timely evaluation helps in planning the right treatment at the right time.
