Pain in the penis during intercourse is not normal and should not be ignored, as it usually indicates an underlying issue that needs attention. The most common causes include local infections (such as fungal or bacterial infections), sexually transmitted infections, tight foreskin (phimosis), small tears due to dryness or inadequate lubrication, excessive friction, or inflammation of the glans (balanitis).

In some cases, conditions like urinary tract infection or early Peyronie’s disease (curvature with pain) may also cause discomfort. If the pain is associated with redness, itching, discharge, swelling, burning during urination, or visible cracks on the skin, an infection is more likely.

It is advisable to maintain proper genital hygiene, avoid harsh soaps, use adequate lubrication during intercourse, and temporarily avoid sexual activity until the pain settles.

However, if the pain is persistent, severe, recurrent, or associated with discharge or difficulty retracting the foreskin, you should consult a doctor (preferably a urologist) for proper examination and treatment. Early diagnosis helps prevent complications and ensures comfortable and safe sexual activity.
