I have been experiencing nose pain (especially in one nostril) along with severe headaches for the past year, which has worsened recently. What could be the cause, and what tests or treatments are required?

Based on your symptoms persistent nose pain, one-sided blockage, and severe headaches the most likely cause could be related to a sinus issue or nasal blockage. When the sinuses (air-filled spaces in the forehead and cheeks) get blocked due to allergy, infection, or structural problems like DNS (Deviated Nasal Septum), the mucus inside cannot drain properly. This leads to pressure build-up, which causes pain in the nose and can even trigger headaches.

Your previous CT scan taken two years ago may not reflect your current condition. Therefore, a fresh CT scan of the nose and sinuses (CT PNS) is essential to understand the exact problem. This scan helps identify whether there is sinus infection, blockage, polyps, or inflammation.

In some cases, additional factors like allergies or migraine can worsen the symptoms. That’s why a complete evaluation of the sinonasal unit (nose + sinuses) is required before deciding treatment.

Treatment depends entirely on the diagnosis:

  • If it’s sinus blockage, medications or a minor endoscopic sinus surgery may be needed to improve drainage
  • If allergy is present, long-term medical management is required
  • If polyps are found, a combination of surgery and medication is used

With proper diagnosis and treatment, this condition is completely manageable, and symptoms can be significantly reduced. However, long-term relief depends on regular follow-up and maintaining treatment discipline, especially in cases related to allergies.
